• Hello from Nagpur, India!

    Everyone’s favorite!

Nov 12th, 2012:  We have just completed a great first week of soccer and social impact with Slum Soccer. We trained a dozen Slum Soccer coaches daily to fully prepare them to run a camp each morning for 100+ kids. This camp was jointly supported by the Rotary Club of Nagpur. We are very impressed with the level of the Slum Soccer coaches and their dedication to deliver Coaches Across Continents’ curriculum of soccer for social impact. The Slum Soccer coaches successfully ran the entire camp themselves, and it is clear that they have been using and implementing our curriculum since last November, the first year of our partnership.

A primary goal of Coaches Across Continents is sustainability, and Slum Soccer is certainly well on their way. The coaches improved each day with their ability to convey important social messages including those of health and wellness, female empowerment, problem solving, and conflict resolution. Because the coaches mastered most of the skills and games from their CAC training last year, we focused this week on the social values, which the coaches are continuing to work hard to recognize and promote through all our games. They are responding well to our suggestions, and they are beginning to understand the importance of soccer beyond the physical sport.
In our second week in Nagpur, we will train the next generation of coaches in Slum Soccer. Both the CAC staff and the senior Slum Soccer coaches will jointly train the newest Slum Soccer coaching recruits. We will do this by running through more of our curriculum to develop at least 25 more coaches who will be able to deliver to their local neighborhoods various soccer and social impact messages by the end of the week.
This week has been immensely enjoyable and productive, and we are excited about our next week, not to mention the continued delicious Indian food, haphazard traffic patterns, and warm smiles.
