• Marisa selected to attend The Dekeyser and Friends Foundation

April 4th, 2012: Coaches Across Continents is delighted to announce that Coach Marisa is one of 12 fellows chosen from around the world to attend the Sports Coaching Project led by former Germany and Arsenal legend, Jens Lehman.

The Dekeyser & Friends Foundation was founded by Bobby Dekeyser to deliver transformative educational programs to youth to inspire them to pursue their dreams and make a positive impact on their communities.

The first part of the program includes a two-month period in Hamburg, learning from Jens and other experts. Jens is passionate to share his experience with the fellows and to guide them to see the beneficial role sport can play in the lives of young people and communities. Also during the first leg, fellows will benefit from the DreamLab, which is a series of workshops and skill sessions covering skills like budgeting and presentation skills to topics relating to leadership strategies, conflict resolution, team building, and youth engagement. Working with Coaches Across Continents (CAC) has given Marisa experience teaching these life skills like conflict resolution through football based activities and she hopes to learn even more about these subjects that can be shared with CAC coaches and volunteers.

The second leg of the fellowship also begins in Hamburg when fellows develop their DreamPlan, which is an independent sports based project or initiative that will be led by the fellow in their own community for the ten months following Hamburg. Marisa plans to develop an initiative that fits within the framework of Coaches Across Continents and that will allow her to focus on strengthening the female empowerment component of CAC’s Chance to Choice Curriculum while expanding the Monitoring and Evaluation systems within Coaches Across Continents.

Marisa is looking forward to working with fellows from all over the world who each will arrive with their own ideas and best practices. She is particularly interested in the DreamLab phase as it will give her the opportunity to develop new ideas for using sports for social development, learn from others and gain the necessary skills to implement a new project with CAC’s partner programs.

Coaches Across Continents is thrilled that Marisa has this opportunity to learn from others in the sports and development field and to develop a project that can create impact with all our partner programs.
