  • The Complete 2015 Documentary

April 13th 2015. Over the past few weeks we have been releasing sections of our 2015 Documentary. Now, for the first time, CAC is pleased to present our complete 2015 documentary. The documentary was filmed in Cambodia in August 2014 with our inspirational partners there, IndoChina Starfish Foundation (ISF), by CAC’s resident videographer Kevin O’Donovan. Kevin does an incredible job of bringing CAC’s work to life every year and this film is no different.

This complete film brings together all five sections of previously released clips. These clips come together to provide an overview of Coaches Across Continents, our Self-Directed Learning model and four aspects of our core curriculum: Soccer Skills for Life, Soccer for Health and Wellness, Soccer for Gender Equity and Soccer for Conflict Resolution. It is through this model that, since 2008, we have been able to work with 123 implementing partners and impact over 800,000 children, creating social change globally through sport.

Watch our complete 2015 Documentary, filmed in Cambodia, below:

The final section was our Soccer for Conflict Resolution model:

Part 4 focuses on our Soccer for Life Skills module:

Here was part 3, focusing on our Soccer for Health and Wellness module:

In case you missed it, here is part 2 focused on our Soccer for Gender Equity module:

  • Part 5 of the Brand New CAC Documentary

March 31st 2015. CAC is pleased to present the 5th and final part of our new 2015 documentary. We will release the full feature film soon.

In the fifth installment below, we focus on our Soccer For Conflict Resolution module. In this module we use sport to address harmful stereotypes which can divide communities and lead to conflict. You can also see how children and youth who have various physical and mental disabilities can be integrated into society using sport. At every Coaches Across Continents program we ask every participant to challenge divisions which exist in their communities and encourage communication over violence.

Watch the final installment below today and stay tuned for the release of the full combined documentary very soon!

Last week we released part 4 which focuses on our soccer for life skills module:

Here was part 3, focused on our soccer for health and wellness module:

In case you missed it, here is part 2 focused on our soccer for female empowerment module:

And part 1 focused on our Self-Directed Learning model:

  • CAC Part of Football Remembers Week

November 26th 2014. 100 years ago this Christmas the First World War had begun. On Christmas Day 1914 troops on both sides were divided only by a narrow piece of land called No-Mans Land in Flanders, Belgium. That is when one of the most iconic moments in the war took place. For one day weapons and violence were replaced by a soccer ball and peace as the soldiers came together in No-Mans Land to play a Christmas Day game of soccer.

To commemorate this event, which demonstrates the power of soccer to unite people all over the world, the British Council are running a series of activities for ‘Football Remembers Week’ between December 6th and the 14th. This collaboration between the British Council, the FA, the Premier League and the Football League will include a pre-match photo of both competing teams at all soccer games from the Premier League to high school games.

Coaches Across Continents, as global leaders in sport for social impact, will be doing our bit for these events. Our programs are currently running in India and Tanzania with upcoming programs in Nepal and Jamaica in December. We will therefore have photos taken at all of these programs as well as asking other international partners to send in photos during the week. These photos will be broadcast on a special ‘Football Remembers’ website. This will add an international perspective to the event, including citizens of many countries who also fought in the First World War. Furthermore, one of the main facets of our programs is the ability of soccer to help people resolve conflict, solve problems and build peace making CAC ideal participants in ‘Football Remembers Week’.

If you are taking part in a soccer game around the weekend of December the 6th why not join in ‘Football Remembers’ and take a photo with both participating teams.

For more information on ‘Football Remembers’ go to http://www.britishcouncil.org/organisation/press/football-honour-centenary-1914-christmas-truce.

  • CAC in Portuguese Creole!

IMG_1079December 23, 2013. Last week Coaches Across Continents finished our final programs of 2013. While one team worked the 2nd week on the island of Jamaica in the Caribbean we ran another program in Cape Verde, a collection of islands off West Africa. This program was ran with Delta Cultura, an award winning organisation who run educational after school programs for children and young people in the small village of Tarrafal on the island of Santiago. Delta Cultura, run by Florian Wegenstein, have an incredible facility in this disadvantaged area located in a picture perfect area. Their 8 buildings consist of classrooms, computer rooms, a musical area and even a carpentry workshop which local children visit to improve their educational attainment.

They were awarded one of the 20 Football for Hope Centres donated by FIFA in conjunction with the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. This turf pitch has been a major change for Delta Cultura who previously relied on a dirt field with regular interruptions from cows and pigs alike. Thankfully Coaches Across Continents were able to use the FIFA turf field which provided a perfect setting to deliver our first year curriculum. Despite the language difference the strength of the curriculum was able to overcome any problems while local Delta Cultura coach Gilson Costa was integral in explaining games and writing the games for coaches in Portuguese. As ever the conflict resolution games were well received with coaches getting fully involved in the outcome of each game. Games such as the lines game and Marta for Conflict Resolution created many arguments which led to some great discussion about dissolving conflict peacefully.

IMG_1097The program has allowed local coaches to understand that football can explain many social issues as well as improving players abilities depending on the sessions focus. With the clear passion and knowledge displayed by the coaches the potential for meaningful impact in Cape Verde is great. They specifically noted the games’ abilities to teach children to take responsibility for their actions and believed they could help discourage violence. Many coaches were also quick to point out there is no training of this kind available in the area therefore it is incredibly important. As we plan for the partnership between Delta Cultura and CAC in years 2 and 3 we are confident there will be no shortage of interest and impact by the local coaches.
