Varsity Soccer Expands CSR Partnership with Coaches Across Continents.

New Agreement Will Bring Select Uniforms & Equipment to Uganda Initiative.

Memphis-based Varsity Soccer, marketers of Select Uniforms and Equipment within the U.S., and the international humanitarian organization Coaches Across Continents (CAC) have announced the expansion and extension of their partnership, started in 2008.

In 2010, Varsity Soccer will be the designated “Hat-Trick” Partner for the Coaches Across Continents program based in Pader District, Uganda. The CAC “Friends of Orphans” development program helps child soldiers, youth abductees and orphans living in the war zones of northern Uganda reintegrate into society.

“Here in the United States, we are so fortunate to have well organized soccer programs with great facilities and equipment,” says Phil Holdsworth, general manager of Varsity Soccer.  “We saw a great opportunity to get involved with a highly respected and award winning humanitarian program that uses soccer as a platform to enrich the lives of at-risk young people throughout Africa. We are proud to expand our relationship with Coaches Across Continents by becoming a key partner in this new Uganda initiative.”

According to Holdsworth, the partnership will allow American players to become more personally connected to the difficult circumstances young people face in Africa. “We see an opportunity to link our club, school and college programs to the CAC programs throughout the continent, and specifically in Uganda. Particularly with eyes of the world focused on Africa as we await the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, we hope to provide a vehicle for members of our partner organizations to get directly involved in the lives of African children who have and continue to face great hardships.”

Nick Gates, Global Strategist of Coaches Across Continents, adds that “Varsity has been a valuable partner for our programs in Malawi and Tanzania over the past couple of years. This expanded relationship will mean boys and girls in our key development programs in Uganda will benefit from new Select soccer apparel, balls and other equipment. We are delighted to have Varsity Soccer as a partner as we develop our Uganda efforts.”
